A Place of Belonging that Leads to a Place of Blessings

On January 31, 1971, the first worship service of the Boulevard Church was held in a frame house secured by the Holmes Road Church of Christ to help this new work get off the ground.

 

On May 28, 1972, Brother Edward Carey became the first full-time minister to the Church of Christ at West Shelby Drive. He served until 1981.

 

On July 18, 1982, Brother Olu Shabazz began as a part-time minister at West Shelby and after 11 months became the full-time minister in June of 1983. Under his leadership the move was made from West Shelby to the Boulevard and the Boulevard held its first worship on May 25, 1986. Brother Shabazz served from 1982 until 1994.

On March 4, 1995, Brother William Jones became the full-time minister and under his leadership the first organized leadership structure was put in place through the installation of Elders and Deacons. Also, the Family Life Center was erected during his tenure. He served until 2016.

On January 1, 2017, Brother W. Michael Jackson became the full-time minister and under his leadership two additional Elders were installed and a new Worship Center was erected with the first service being held in that facility on June 4, 2023. Brother Jackson is presently serving as
the full-time minister and as an elder.

And for fifty-three years, this congregation has, and with the Lord’s help, will continue to serve this Whitehaven community and strengthen the legacy of this great church.
